The Blue Highway Has Arrived

Long discussed as an innovation to New York and New Jersey’s supply chain, blue highways are moving from vision to reality. The opportunity to move more freight via water instead of roadways is being met with commitments from the private sector and New York City. Some of the benefits of blue highways include reducing truck traffic, decreasing pollution burdens on local communities, and providing an outlet for supply chain bottlenecks during times of emergency. This panel discusses the current commitments from the governmental and private sectors, the challenges each will face in implementation and expansion, and the support that is necessary from advocates and local communities.
