Building for Regional Resilience: The Need for Regional Collaboration

New York and New Jersey are each creating strong plans to build climate resilience for their state, from the Climate Resiliency Design Guidelines to staffing a Chief Climate Resilience Officer. However, climate change does not see state lines and the need for regional collaboration is critical to ensuring preparedness in the future. This panel discusses the states’ plans and ideas for collaboration in the future.

Capstone Project on Legislation Impact

The Waterfront Alliance and the NYU Capstone team undertook a comprehensive analysis to assess the impact of the two key pieces of legislation that aim to foster urban resilience: the Flood Risk Disclosure Laws in New York and New Jersey and the Climate Resiliency Design Guidelines for New York City, known as Local Law 41. This capstone project analyzed both policies, identified areas of improvement and provided insights into the challenges around implementation, and provided recommendations to strengthen policy efforts. Team leader Camilla Fernandez relates the findings.
